Neutral Good

Alignment

Neutral Good is the alignment of pure-hearted altruism unconstrained by doctrine. A Neutral Good creature wants to do good and will work within laws when they help and bend or break them when they hinder — the goal is always the welfare of others, and no framework owns that goal.

Core Beliefs
  • Doing good is its own justification.
  • Rules are tools — useful when they serve justice, ignored when they don't.
  • Everyone deserves help, regardless of their standing in society.
  • No institution is more important than the people it's meant to serve.

Behavior Notes

Neutral Good characters are the most straightforwardly altruistic of the nine alignments. They help those in need, oppose cruelty, and try to leave the world better than they found it. They cooperate with lawful institutions when those institutions serve good ends, and work around them when they don't — without the Chaotic Good character's reflexive distrust of authority or the Lawful Good character's commitment to institutional process.

Mechanical Notes

  • Opposed alignment: Neutral Evil.
  • Within one step: Lawful Good, Chaotic Good, True Neutral — accessible to Druid (must be within one step of True Neutral) and most class requirements.
  • Paladin access: NG is one step from LG, so a Paladin cannot be NG — but many Paladin-adjacent archetypes (Hospitaler, Sacred Servant) suit NG characters.
  • Good subtype: NG outsiders (most agathions, some angels) carry the Good subtype and are affected by [Evil]-descriptor effects.
